Churches in Alderholt Parish

Alderholt: St James'

Daggons Road Alderholt Salisbury
(01425) 653179
https://stjameschurchalderholt.com

St James' seeks to be a church for all ages, and its worship reflects this: traditional forms are valued while newer practices are also encouraged. We are very lucky to be a 'standalone Church' so we have one Vicar for one Church. Preaching is of a high standard and a questioning, honest exploration of the Christian faith is encouraged. There is a friendly, supportive atmosphere which means that such a diversity is not only tolerated but cherished. Visitors are always very welcome and there are usually refreshments following main services, served in the adjacent church hall (where there are also toilets available!)

The church building, open for prayer throughout the day, is simple, and includes two remarkable icons, of St James and of St Michael, painted by Br Leon Liddament of the Orthodox Community in Wlasingham. Although situated outside the main village area, the church is at he heart of the community and runs The Forest Edge Coffee Shop in the village's main road Monday to Wednesday, 9.30 - 1.30. Annual highlights include the ReCreate Festival (think of a subbuteo-sized Greenbelt Arts Festival) near to Easter and the Patronal Festival, which features a spectacular village giant, held either the weekend of or before St James' Day, 25th July.
